Kitchen Design Considerations

What should you consider with your kitchen design?

LAYOUT:

Critical to get right to maximise the space and work flow. Think about what works now, what doesn’t, the important kitchen triangle and plenty of bench space for prep, multiple people, shared uses etc. How does it interact with other spaces? Is it open plan? Will the kids be doing their homework from the kitchen bench or eating at it? Do you entertain often? How will that work?

STYLE:

Think about overall design style and colours you like. Pinterest is a great source for inspo, and if you head to designandstyletolove I have some inspo boards that may help if you’re stuck. Kitchens are generally the most expensive space so you want something that will have longevity that you will continue to love over numerous years.

PLANNING:

This is one space worth over thinking and spending plenty of time planning. Allow time, you don’t want to get it wrong. How will you and your family use it? What trades will you need? What are the leadtimes like for trades, materials, furnishings? Not a space left and rushed in the last minute. Invest the time and reap the rewards of an exceptional kitchen you love.

STORAGE:

…storage storage. You can not have enough, especially in the kitchen. Think pots, pans, cookbooks, microwaves, kettles, endless gadgets, a place for the glad wrap and bottles of plonk. The list is endless. There are so many clever storage solutions - think corner swivels, pull out towers, double drawers, drawers utilising often neglected space under the oven. Smart storage is such a saver, and if you are fortunate to have space for a butlers pantry, do it!

Kitchens are such a great space when you get it right. With so many decisions it can be overwhelming. If you need help, get in touch.
