Dining Chairs

A few of my favourite dining chairs right now. Modern designs in neutral tones of wood, grey or white, to fit a wide variety of spaces. If you’d like help choosing dining chairs to suit your style and space, or would like access to exclusive interior designer only furniture pieces like those above, get in touch, I’d love to help.

When shopping for dining chairs, there’s a few key things to consider.

Comfort:

Considering comfort is key for those long lunches and dinners with friends and family. I’m a fan of wooden chairs, but look for one with an upholstered seat like the upholstered versions pictured in the top row. With a tan leather, they blend in seamlessly.

HEIGHT:

Too low for your table and its like being a kid sitting at the adult table. Too high and there’s no leg room.

LEGS:

Often not considered, but the placement of your table legs could impact your choice here. For example, if your table has legs that are central and extend wide (like mine), it may interfere with where the chairs can be pushed into, and frame legs (ie, chair with white metal legs in pic above) for instance may not be an option. Unless you are happy for them to have to sit far out from the table, which isn’t ideal. Something more easily maneuvered around legs may be a better choice.

ARMS:

Consider your space. If you’re tight on space, you may need to stick to chairs without arms (or a bench) rather than cramp the space. For example, I love the Tolv (top left) but in most cases, chairs with arms can’t be pushed right in to sit flush against the table edge, taking up more of your floor space. It’s what makes their design so beautiful, and perfect if you have plenty of room.

PETS:

Yes you read that right. The backs of dining chairs are perfect little cat scratchers for our furry friends (yes I’m talking from experience). Pets also love to curl up on the seat. So consider how easy it is to get the fur off or clean, and whether your furry friend may well just love clawing the back.

LONGEVITY:

Dining chairs can be pretty pricey. Especially as you’ll need a few, so the expense adds up pretty quick. Consider a design that’s going to stand the test of time, from a design aesthetics perspective as well as comfort and quality.
