Interior Design Tips For Bed Interior Styling

There are so many ways to style your bed, but here are a few quick interior design tips for a bed you can’t wait to jump into.

  1. LAYER UP

This is what gives it that scrumptious sink into feel. Texture and layers are key. From sheets, to duvet, pillows, cushions and throws, this is how to get a more luxe and designer look like you see in the mags or your favourite designers online.

  2. HEIGHT & RHYTHM

By playing with different styles and sized pillows and cushions, this creates interest and depth and draws your eyes up and across the bed. Headboards also help give height, visual interest and help to anchor the bed.

  3. TURN DOWN THE BED

Folding the duvet down at the top or the top sheet down over the top of the duvet helps to create another layer, and also gives it that ‘dive on in’ feel. I don’t always do this, but in this instance it worked well with my combinations, and with a different pattern on the other side, creates another layer of interest.

  4. PILLOWS & CUSHIONS

Two of the most often asked questions is how many pillows and/or cushions should I use, and what goes where? There are endless combinations, and personally, I change it up slightly depending on the scheme I’m putting together.

For my king bed I tend to do the following:

    • 2 x Euros at the back

    • 2 or 4 x Standard pillows (1 or 2 rows depending on cushions)

    • 1 to 3 cushions (depending on above and size of cushions, and just like cushions for the sofa, feather inners always look best for that sumptuous look)

    • There are also different thoughts on what orientation your pillows should be. Sitting up right, or stacked on top of each other. Again, no way is wrong. I still prefer mine up right.

  5. ADD A QUILT, BLANKET OR THROW

This is a great way to add another layer, some warmth, colour and/or texture. It’s what gives your bed a more styled look. A quilt tends to be more structurally arranged/folded across the bed, whereas throws and blankets can look best more casually thrown across the bed, either horizontally or draped across and down at an angle for a more lived in and relaxed feel. In summer you can forego the duvet and just use a quilt, folded down or not.

Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference and how you feel about making the bed each morning and whether placing all the pillows, cushions and throws back on the bed that you threw off last night is for you.

Don’t overthink it, just do what suits you.
