3 Updates I’d Make To My Kitchen

Interior Design Tips - Kitchen Design

Yesterday I shared the secret that my kitchen is 12 years old. When I designed it, I wanted it to be timeless, and I still love it 12 years later. 💫

While not my first priority, if I was to update my kitchen, there are 3 enhancements I’d love to make to elevate its design, whilst remaining timeless:

  1. Timber slatted cupboard doors

Bringing in the warmth of timber and interest, just to the 3 central overhead cupboards above my stove.

  2. Tile splash back

Back when I did my kitchen, we were so limited in tile choice. In fact, it took me a year to find something I loved. These are a couple of currents I love. Im a sucker for a chevron or herringbone pattern. But I think I might save that for my bathroom (in need of a much overdue reno).

  3. Engineered stone bench top

When I did my kitchen reno, I decided on a whim (which I DO NOT recommend 🤪), to do several other projects at the same time. New deck, paint & flooring throughout. So that meant foregoing a stone bench top in the kitchen. I’m pleasantly surprised at how the high pressure laminate (HPL) bench top has lasted, and highly recommend if you are on a budget (there are so many great options these days). So, I would love to update to an engineered stone bench top (for wear). It will be white with subtle veining (and maybe a hint of gold tying in to the wood tones).

No matter what your budget, there are so many budget friendly ways to update your kitchen. From painting over existing cupboards and new handles, to some smaller updates like this, through to complete new kitchens to suit all budgets!
