3 Colour Palettes to embrace in your home

I was fortunate to be invited to the launch of the Dulux Colour Forecast for 2024. This year’s palettes step deeper into the mid-tone hues to evoke feelings of warmth, nostalgia and self-expression.

  1. SOLSTICE

The first palette is my personal favourite - Solstice.

The minute I saw it, it was like the Mediterranean was calling me, with coastal and Scandinavian tones, naturally I was a fan.

Dulux says “Designed to transform your home into a soothing retreat, the Solstice palette features rich and organic hues that cocoon us and help to evoke feelings of strength and joy. Solstice is influenced by the pared back Scandinavian design style with the added warmth of colours inspired by the Mediterranean and desert landscapes. Solstice can create uplifting spaces that are the perfect backdrop to socialise and entertain.”

What’s not to love! Sun soaked warmth, with nurturing hues of rich browns and warm neutrals, midtone blues and sun-loving citrus yellows.

Ocean Surf, Potters Park, and Mayfield are a few of my favourite colour picks in this palette.

Solstice palette as shown in top line of images above:

Top row: Baylys Beach, Howick Half, Cardrona, Mayfield

Middle row: Potters Park, Ponsonby, Blue Pools, Handmade Linen Half

Bottom row: Tikitiki, Waipoua Forest, Ocean Surf, Paekakariki

  2. JOURNEY

The second palette is Journey. A maximalist, eclectic and retro vibe, that’s rich in detail.

Of this palette, Dulux says “Journey is a palette celebrating the art of storytelling adding layers of depth and colour to your space. Experiences from our travels and diverse cultural highlights influence rich mid-tone colours with a maximalist and eclectic feel in our homes. Similar to the diverse tapestry of our own lives, the Journey palette brings together lavish colours along with heavily patterned fabrics, time worn rugs, wicker chairs, multi-coloured trinkets, and vintage finds awaiting a fresh paint colour for their next journey.”

Layer rich midtone hues, with yellow-greens, blues, rich reds and plum to add depth. Add textures and pieces you love, carefully curated together to make your space unique to you and your journey than tell your own story.

Te Anau, Evening Blush, and Carmen are a few of my favourite colour picks in this palette.

Journey palette as shown in middle line of images above:

Top row: Crow Valley, Te Horo, Carmen, Martinborough

Middle row: Muriwai Half, Tarras, Evening Blush, Murrays Bay

Bottom row: Epsom, Glinks Gully, Trentham, Te Anau

  3. MUSE

The final palette is Muse. A celebration of the free spirited styles of the past.

Dulux stays “Muse strikes the perfect balance between the expressive colours featured in postmodern interiors and the emerging modern hues in contemporary design. The Muse palette is a colourful array of hues creating a distinctly modern interior that has been fused with nostalgic design references reminscent of the 60’s to the 80’s, in addition to the textures and glamour from the 70’s.”

Muse is timeless and contemporary, paying tribute to the design icons that have come before. A palette or warm browns, and cooler blues and greens, inspire a feeling of unlimited creativity.

Kohunui Bay, Kellands Pond and Okarito (one of my favourite Dulux whites) are a few of my favourite colour picks in this palette.

Muse palette as shown in bottom line of images above:

Top row: Kohunui Bay, Bryophyte, Albury, Okarito

Middle row: Waipu Cove, Pt Chevalier, Macraes Flat, Flourescent Fire

Bottom row: Kellands Pond, Hidden Depths, Fantan, Guitar
